Phoenix finally break Brisbane Roar's hoodoo to climb into 4th spot

WELLINGTON - Saturday, 9 January 2010

Thanks to Big Dadi who netted twice on his debut, following Tim Brown's 6th goal early in today's the Wellington Phoenix finally broke the hoodoo that the Roar held over the Ricki Herbert-coached side since they joined the A-League in their third campaign.

It was a magnificent appearance for Eugene Dadi, fresh from being released by the Perth Glory, and his start gave the 'Nix everything they lacked up front, especially when he scored with a bicycle kick which sent the 'Yellow Fever' into raptures.

That gave the Phoenix a 3-0 buffer, and it was rather unfortunate that they (or, perhaps it should be said custodian Liam Reddy) thought he had the corner covered, when the Roar got a consolation goal (through Sergio Van Dijk) before the close, only to concede when the ball crept into the left-hand side of the net, but off the post.

The opening goal was once again from vice-captain Tim Brown's head as he ghosted unmarked into the goalmouth as Manny Muscat crossed the car, missed by Dadi allowing the ball in, and comfortably guided it past the Roar custodian Griffin McMaster, as the cross came in.

2010-11 Hyundi A-League [rd22]:

In the first of the later games, Central Coast and Queensland Fury shared a 1-1 game with 8 minutes left before the final whistle, although Nik Mrjda put the home side ahead, before All White Jeremy Brockie equalised for the visitors halfway through the first half. Neither side will be able to dislodge the Phoenix position on the table, as both sides are chasing the Wellington-based franchise.
